AOFM offer freelance makeup artists from the leading agencies in New York and London who work with the most famous celebrities, fashion designers, magazines and runway shows to teach you. We have over 40 makeup artists who guest teach at AOFM so you will be spoilt for choice. Students learn from a different artist every day giving you the chance to pick up more than just one way of applying makeup and learn more tricks of the trade. Students work with over 25 luxury brands including Mac, Makeup Forever, Chanel, Dior and many more.

Training tools & Kits
AOFM believes in giving students the most up-to-date industry tools when training - that’s why our student train with more than 30 professional and luxury brands.
This enables students to obtain a good understanding of the products that are available to them in the industry. A makeup artist will never use just one brand alone but products from a multitude of brands. We don’t believe in kits as this limits the amount of product knowledge a student learns. In most cases schools will supply their own brand cosmetics.
This will not give you a proper understanding but limit your product knowledge which is essential for a professional makeup artist. Students will not have a base kit of products available for them throughout the course but will have the opportunity to work with full ranges of the top brands on the market. We Kick Start Your Career
Our tutors keep a keen eye out for all students who do extremely well. Those showing enthusiasm, talent, and dedication will be offered the opportunity to assist tutors on shoots & catwalk shows, as well as join the Academy bookings department where we will offer paid work giving an added kick-start to your career

Committed to Your Development
At the Academy, we are committed to your development and when you choose to learn from us our support does not stop there. We like you to keep us informed of your progress and if need be we will happily offer professional advice as well as a free refresher session. Student can also take advantage of our Mac Pro and Shu Uemura master classes both of which are run two times a year for as long as they like.
Making a Head Start
Since we all had to start somewhere, we understand how expensive it can be to start in this industry. This is why the Academy gives you a variety of kit discount and resource options, letting you choose what suits you best. Kits are not necessary when doing our courses as we give you the Academy’s high quality brush set and provide make up from over 30 professional and luxury brands. For those students wishing to have kits, we can provide one tailored to individual needs discounted at up to 50% off retail prices. This option allows us to keep your course fees to a minimum and give all students invaluable product knowledge on a vast amount of available brands, benefiting our students. During and after completion of courses, students can take advantage of agreed Academy discounts up to 50% for such things as make up from a number of professional brands, portfolios and other services.
Creative Day
We give you the chance to explore your creativity and flair with a fantastic photo shoot with a top fashion photographer. Our teachers and amazing clothes stylists will be on hand to help you create stunning looks. Beautiful fashion models from leading London model agencies will be provided and you will be given a CD with all the images on to give you a head start with your portfolio.

Work Placements
AOFM has a large unrivalled teaching team comprised of professional working make up artists and hair stylists who are with some of London’s leading creative make up and hair agencies. We give every student a chance to assist them and work on a number of work placements. There is no better learning experience than on a real job.
It is vital in your career to assist if you are going to work in the freelance make up industry. This is your launch pad into the industry, growing your network and skills. No student will ever leave college and go straight into full time freelance work and will always start from the bottom and work their way up. Assisting will do this for you.
We are the only makeup academy to sponsor a number of designers throughout Fashion Week in London, New York and Paris. This enables us to head many of the top shows and offer backstage work opportunities to our graduates every year. AOFM also offer a number of work placements with magazines such as Vogue, Tattler, I-D and TV shows such as Britain’s Next Top Model.

The Truth
AOFM is a revolution in training
Since we launched our unique style of training, there have been so many imitators, how can you tell if they are any good or not?
First thing to understand is that a school can never, ever give instant success (not even us), although many will promise this. It takes time. A makeup artist has to work hard and shoot as many images as possible for their portfolios, as well as working on the widest possible range of events and shows. This can take a few years.
Many schools claim to offer working artists. Don’t take their word for it. Google all their teachers and see for yourself what they are doing in the industry. Check their client list. Are they with agencies? You may be very surprised at who is current and who is not.
Aftercare
Many claim to offer aftercare but check exactly what it consists of. Sometimes you will find there is very little substance to their claim and very few aftercare classes are actually on offer. It is very important you are exposed to the biggest names in the industry such as beauty editors from the biggest magazines and the makeup artists working on the most famous celebrities. Ask students on Facebook to find out what aftercare they have had.
Certificates and qualifications
Now this is a hard one. So many schools claim you need to be qualified. This is completely and utterly false as this is a portfolio-based industry, not a certificate-based industry. It frustrates us that many of the people issuing such guidance actually have no idea of what a working makeup artist is. There are many makeup artists who have never done a course or training. These makeup artists are at the top of the industry. If you work in fashion you ONLY
need a portfolio.
What contacts does a school really have?
Well so many schools do offer the world. Pretending to offer a lot, when in fact there are very few work opportunities. Research how many shows and events they do. Are they working with people who work in fashion? Don’t be deceived. PLEASE do your research. Google shows and artists to make sure you are getting what you’re paying for.

This is open to all our graduates of our 3 week and 4 week make up courses. We believe so much in our student's success that we are happy to invest our own money in making our top students dream of working in Paris a reality. We are giving 4 lucky students each year the opportunity of an all-expenses paid trip to Paris to work with the AOFM-based creative team.
During your time in Paris you will create an editorial shoot for your portfolio with top models and our creative team. All you need to do is successfully complete our Professional Makeup & Hair or Total Pro Creative Specialist course, work hard on building your makeup career and portfolio once you leave, send images of your work and progress and the best 4 graduates every year demonstrating their hard work and success will experience this career trip of a life time. It's that simple!
The Paris Scholarship is open to our students in the UK and NYC and includes all transport and hotel accommodation and a shoot with a Paris-based team including a clothes stylist, photographer and hair and makeup artist to assist you create your best work.
