"I completed the Foundation Make-up Certificate at the Academy of Freelance Make Up and I can honestly say that it is one of the best things that I have ever done. Having been fascinated by make-up as a little girl, I then forged a career as a beauty writer but I wanted to get a hands-on experience to give me the confidence to cross over into the practical side and become a make-up artist, the Academy has given me this.

They have a fresh and vibrant attitude to learning and it's a hands-on experience from day one. The philosophy is that if you don't do you don't learn so pupils get to pick up their brushes, a set of which is given on arrival, and start creating looks immediately sticking to a brief that is given but also being allowed to let their creativity take over. All the teachers were excellent. They were easy to approach and very open to any questions that we threw at them. I really appreciated the fact that they were all working in very different aspects of the industry – it gave a really rounded perspective of what the future could hold as a make-up artist. I also really appreciated their honesty.

There was no illusion of how difficult it is to become successful and how luck and fate play a part in helping make a career…as well as immense talent of course! It was great to have someone different to learn from everyday as each person gave a completely different way of approaching make-up and it was just good to see different techniques and methods. By the time I completed the course I felt that I had built up the skill and confidence to work in a professional capacity and I never would have got without doing this course. It was amazing. It was everything that I wanted to get from it so it fulfilled every expectation that I had and more. The general vibe of the academy is a relaxed one but it has structure so you feel that all your time is being filled up. It is one of the best things I have ever done."
