Professional Freelance Make-Up
and Hair Styling Certificate


This hair and makeup course is suited to the absolute beginner with no previous experience and there are no entry requirements. If you are serious about getting into the industry and want all the skills to be able to get out there and work this is the course for you.

This 3 week course will take you from the basics up to the complete level of skills and understanding required by a professional freelance hair and make-up artist, enabling you to immediately start in the industry.

This course it taught by several top international freelance artists and suits students wanting to work in high fashion/ photographic/ catwalk/ bridal Magazines/ music/ editorial/ advertising /and some general media. It includes all hair and make-up materials such as make-up from over 25-30 famous luxury cosmetic brands (for a full detailed list of our products please go to the ‘Why Us’ section on the menu under ‘Experience the Choice’).

You will be given a AOFM brush set to take with you on completion of your course. Students will also take part in their very own professional photo shoot with a professional photographer clothes stylist and 2 models from Select model management

You will also be given a CD to take with you to start your most important tool (the portfolio).

You will learn the following in detail:-

Make-up artist hygiene
This covers the importance and professional understanding of artist hygiene eg. keeping all your equipment clean and tidy and personal hygiene.

Skin preparation
Preparing the skin is just as important as make-up itself. It is the base to any good make-up application. You will learn an understanding of skin care and different skin types.

This will also cover the selection and application of cleansers, toners, moisturisers and primers.

Foundation selection and application
Foundation selection according to skin types. Coverage, as well as the various mixing and application techniques.

Corrective and Camouflage Techniques
Learn correcting and camouflaging technique for imperfections such as spots and dark circles.

Sculpting & Shading
Learn how to re-shape and sculpt areas of the face to emphasise certain features.

Creating glowing skin Learn how to create fresh glowing dewy skin with a variety of products used by industry professionals.

Powders
Learn application aspects and uses of powders such as loose and pressed.

Bronzers
Learn the various textures, areas and ways to apply bronzers.

Eye Brow shaping
This is one of the most important areas of the face you will learn. Includes artistic eyebrow shaping techniques to enhance the beauty of the natural line of the eyebrow.

Eye Shadows-powders/cream
This will cover the 2 different textures in terms of their application and their uses in detail.

Natural beauty make-up
You will learn the various ways to apply a perfect natural make-up.

Bridal make-up
This covers in detail the application and other considerations when applying bridal make-up

Smoky eyes
Learn the many styles of smoky eyes. In this section you will learn application techniques, use of different textures, adding colour and adding a personal style.

Pencil/Liquid Liner
This covers pencil and liquid eyeliners and application techniques in detail.

Mascaras
This covers different mascaras, applications and their uses.

False lash application
This covers eyelash strips, individuals, lower lashes and creative application techniques.

Blushers powder/creams
Blushers, powders and creams will be covered in detail including application techniques of the 2 textures and their uses.

Lipsticks, glosses & liners
This will cover all aspects from colour selection to application of lipsticks, glosses and lip liners. You will also learn a variety of creative industry tricks.

Hands & Body
You will learn make-up and various considerations on areas of the hands and body.

Understanding of Photography lighting
A make-up artist’s understanding of photography lighting is crucial. You will learn how to find the right balance of application for your make-up. Black & white/colour photography make-up You will learn make-up applications and the key differences for both black & white and colour photography.

Hair Product selection
Before creating a style, learn how to select the right product. In this section we will guide you through products and their uses.

Tools of the trade building a session stylist kit
You will find out what tools are needed for a hair and make-up artist’s kit.
A session stylist will guide you through their personal kits to give you a good understanding of what is required

Sectioning getting ready
Lean how to section your work, keeping it clean and tidy before beginning your desired style

Blow drying in to styles
Learn how to blow dry hair in to simple styles adding body to flat hair, create flicks and interesting natural styles

Styles using the tongs
Most session stylists work with tongs whether it’s back stage or on a shoot. Learn how to create body curls flicks and other tong tricks

Setting the Hair
Learn how to set hair into styles with the use of Velcro and/or heated rollers

Hair pieces and working with extensions
Our stylist will help you understand and teach you how to work with hair pieces and creating styles around extensions

Braiding
Learn how to braid into simple and funky catwalk and photographic styles

Creating Curls
Learn the tricks of the trade of creating various types of curls

GHD’s
Learn how to create various types of curls using ghd’s and how to straighten the professional way

Hair up design
Learn simple hair-up techniques and adapt them to your own personal style

Fashion pony tail
Learn how to create a fashion catwalk and photographic pony tail

Classic French pleat and bee hive
Learn how to create a classic French pleat and turn it into a bee hive style

Fashion periods
Our stylist will talk through and teach you the uses of fashion periods in fashion today

Fashion editorial
Our stylist will help you understand working on photographic and fashion magazines shoots, teaching you how to create effective and funky editorial styles
